In 2006, Champ Bailey joined the Denver Rescue Mission as a monthly volunteer at the Denver Broncos Youth Center, located at The Crossing, Denver Rescue Mission’s transitional facility for families and single adults.
Champ spends his volunteer time with the children of families who are transitioning into permanent housing solutions. He is a wonderful role model and friend to these children who are in need of support, encouragement and love.
In Champ’s Blog you will find monthly updates from Champ Bailey featuring his volunteer activities with the Denver Rescue Mission. “Volunteering with these kids has touched my heart. I love hanging out with them, doing projects and activities. They’re just great kids, and they deserve a life without poverty.”

Today, I hung with the kids at The Crossing. It was such a beautiful day that we were able to go outside and play some games. I threw around a football with some of my friends over there, and I’ll tell you, some of them are pretty good! Since Mother’s Day is coming up, we decorated some flower pots and filled them with candy for our moms. I decorated a pot with one of my friends. It was blue and had red dots all over it! It’s pretty awesome, if I may say so!! Don’t forget, you can be a part of my team! Keep volunteering!

This Christmas, I was able to host the annual Broncos Christmas Party at The Crossing. All of the families at The Crossing were invited and we had an awesome time! I brought some of my teammates including Hamza Abdullah, Chad Mustard, Daniel Graham, Nate Jackson, Mike Bell, Elvis Dumervil, Andre Hall, Glenn Martinez and Louis Green! We had a great holiday dinner and took tons of photos with the families. Bronco Cheerleaders came as well and we signed lots of autographs. Each family received a cool Broncos blanket and gift certificate. It felt great to be able to help celebrate Christmas with these families and give them a Christmas they deserve! Hope you all do the same. Keep volunteering

I had a great time at the brownie bake-off! We got to meet Julius Walls, the guy who bakes the brownies that go into Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, which was awesome. He gave us the recipe and then we got to put our own twist on it!! We split into teams, added our own ingredients, baked them and then a panel of judges tasted each brownie. I don’t want to brag or anything, but my team’s brownies won!! As always, it was great to hang out with the kids again.
Remember, you can be a part of my team! Call the Denver Rescue Mission and don’t forget to say you are with Champ’s Volunteers!

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to hang out with the kids at The Crossing. Tonight was great because we just had fun together playing games and hanging out. Fooseball has to be my favorite so far, air hockey coming in a close second. The kids enjoyed pizza and I had a chance to check in with them to see how they were doing with their running. I think a few more kids are going to sign up for the Champ’s Marathon Milers program. We are going to have an awesome running team in June. I can’t wait to hand out all the medals.

March 2, 2007
Champ’s Volunteers Kickoff! That’s right, tonight we kicked off the Champ’s Volunteers program at Red & Jerry’s. We played games, had food, and held a press conference to announce this great volunteer opportunity for youth. At the press conference I gave out our first Champ’s Volunteer Awards to Mountian View Baptist Church Youth Group and Theta Chi Fraternity of the University of Denver. These youth groups have done some amazing things at the Denver Rescue Mission; check out their highlight on the. My favorite part of the night was bowling. Everyone that came had the chance to bowl against me. We’re talking several hundred people! Let’s just say that I’m going to stick with football professionally, and leave the bowling to you all. You wore me out!

Tonight I talked to the kids about a new program I am involved with called Champ’s Marathon Milers. The program asks kids to run an accumulative 25 miles during the months leading up to the Colfax Marathon. Then the day before the actual Colfax Marathon these elementary and middle schoolers all come together and run the last mile of their marathon at the finish line to receive medals and prizes. I want to get these kids from The Crossing to join my team, and they all seemed really excited about it tonight. It’s good to know that I can make a difference with them, and that I can give them opportunities like this where they can have fun and do something good for their health and bodies at the same time.
